About me
Nicole Schutz is a Métis music educator in Edmonton, Alberta. She has over 20 years of experience as a music specialist for Edmonton Public Schools and has taught at the post-secondary level, including the Orff Levels movement at the Univeristy of Alberta. Nicole holds a Master's in Elementary Curriculum and Pedagogy from the University of Alberta and a B.Ed and B. A from Concordia University of Alberta. She is Level III Orff certified and holds a World Music Pedagogy certificate from the Smithsonian Institute. Nicole is President of the Alberta Orff Chapter and a teacher advisor for MusiCounts. She co-created Nithota, an Indigenous music education resource for the National Art Centre, and Wîtaskîwin for MusiCounts. Nicole is a collaborator for Drumming in Indigenous Voices, a national research project focused on Indigenizing music education. She presents across Canada on decolonizing and Indigenizing music education.
